What are human beings? Are we advanced apes? Are we machines? Are we souls confined to a body? Questions of core human identity are central to many of our conversations.
Some scientists and philosophers tell us that the most important thing about you is driven by the brain cells in your head. But is this the whole story? After all we don’t just have a brain, we also have a mind. We think thoughts, experience emotions, and store memories.
But how do we get from brain cells to thoughts? Science can tell me how my brain & mind work, but can it tell me who I am and why I am?
If God is real, does this change how we think about this question? And what would He have to say about our identity?
